Tale of Diep (ToD) is no longer under active development as a derivative of Diep.io and remains here as an archive, though spin-offs such as The Extended Tale of Diep remain active. For info on the successor to Tale of Diep, now an independent work called "A Tale Where Nothing Matters", visit its Discord server here.

The Acolyte of Doom is an Event Boss that can spawn in any area of The Realm occupied by the Cult of Panzer during the time between the first step of the Seven Steps of the Sanctum has been completed, and the end of the Tower of Gladii being around. How much health he has depends on which area he spawns in.

Design

Acolyte of Doom is a black tank with two circle hands on the end of arms. He wears blood red robes with Panzer's dragon symbol on it. He has two yellow eyes which turn black and white (like goo from The Void) sometimes. His body shape can be described as a bit similar to Stormbringer but with the new design assets.

Lore

The Acolyte of Doom is a powerful force created by Panzer using Tank Essence in The Void. Showing that the chains on Panzer weaken as the Tank Empire grows closer to infiltrating the tower and the Archprophet enacts his plans, the Acolyte's summon calls a new age's coming. Impending doom approaches for the Cult's enemies, and the Acolyte is doom's envoy. One could refer to it as a Son of Panzer. Some do, addressing it as a fifth Final Son with no castle and instead a direct vendetta against those who oppose Panzer. It is not an evil force, but an immoral one. The Acolyte does what it does for what it knows, and what it knows is that its supposed to better the Archprophet's goals...

Attack Sets

Depending on the area of The Realm the Acolyte is fought in, it will use a different set of attacks, listed below.

Toil Ridge and Paradigm Dunes

  • Blinding Blackness: Raises his hands, which pulse with gray energy. From his hands will be fired quick black rings of bullets, which do light damage and inflict with Blinded for 4 seconds.
  • Damned Storm: His hands get surrounded by four fireballs. After three seconds, they are fired at tanks. They inflict Burning for 4 seconds.
  • Stalking Shade: Turns invisible for 8 seconds. Can use any other move during this time. He can still be damaged, it's just hard to hit him. If he is struck, he will go visible for a short time before fading away again.
  • True Sight: Screen flashes white for half of a second. All nearby players get damaged and inflicted with Panic for 8 seconds. However, if they were invisible, they also get revealed.
  • Summoning: Raises one hand and it glows purple. A while later, three Portals appear, releasing Tears of Panzer until they collapse.
  • Servitude: He closes his eyes, as one player turns black and loses control over his tank for 12 seconds. Both the Acolyte and the player are Invulnerable for the duration of this.

Wintercrest and Shattered Coast

  • Blinding Blackness: Raises his hands, which pulse with gray energy. From his hands will be fired multiple quick black rings of bullets, which do light damage and inflict with Blinded for 4 seconds.
  • Damned Storm II: His hands get surrounded by four fireballs. After three seconds, they are fired at tanks. They inflict Stunned and Burning for 4 seconds.
  • Stalking Shade II: Turns invisible for 8 seconds. Can use any other move during this time. He can still be damaged, it's just hard to hit him. Will not flash visible again if hit like before.
  • True Sight: Screen flashes white for half of a second. All nearby players get damaged and inflicted with Panic for 8 seconds. However, if they were invisible, they also get revealed.
  • Summoning II: Raises one hand and it glows purple. A while later, four Portals appear, releasing Dungeon Crawlers until they collapse.
  • Servitude: He closes his eyes, as one player turns black and loses control over his tank for 12 seconds. Both the Acolyte and the player are Invulnerable for the duration of this.
  • Black Winds: Will raise his arms, as two black rings of darkness open. Between these two rings, a rapid stream of fast moving shots will fly. Once the shots exit from the first portal, it will close and move to a new location, and the bullets that entered the second portal will be fired out of the moved portal and to a new location where the second ring reopens. This all happens very quickly, creating no passing zones in the arena.
  • Darkness Consumes: The entire screen and a very very large area around the Acolyte will go completely black, except for a small ring around the Acolyte. There will be multiple white rings of light on the map spawned within this darkness. Players must move into one of the light rings within 4 seconds or be fatally damaged.
  • Void Waves: Will wave his arms up and down, as a sweeping beam of dark energy is fired outward, rotating around him. Players must move with this beam or suffer heavy damage and be inflicted with Confused for 3 seconds. This beam picks up rotation speed, until the attack ends 8 seconds after.

Neverest Mountains and Desolate Plains

  • Blinding Blackness: Raises his hands, which pulse with gray energy. From his hands will be fired quick black rings of bullets, which do light damage and inflict with Blinded for 4 seconds.
  • Void Waves II: Will wave his arms up and down, as two sweeping beam of dark energy are fired outward on opposite sides of each other, rotating around him. Players must move with this beam or suffer heavy damage and be inflicted with Confused for 3 seconds. This beam picks up rotation speed, until the attack ends 8 seconds after.
  • Hellish Mold: Will release black glowing orbs in a grid pattern around it, which after four seconds will all fire red fiery beams in the cardinal directions, forming a laser grid. This does damage and inflicts Burning for 3 seconds. After this, the Acolyte will begin releasing rotating rings of shots that players have to dodge while also standing inside of their small formed square grid block. Lasts for 10 seconds, and players are inflicted with Cursed and Panic for the duration of the ability.
  • Breaking Point: A finger snap sound will play, as he raises one of his arms. An infinitesimally small black point will appear on the ground and then quickly expand in size gradually until it consumes the screen. Upon the black receding, numerous black Traps will lazily drift around the battleground. On touching these Traps, players are inflicted with Slowed and take moderate damage.

"Death" Animation

Toil Ridge or Paradigm Dunes: *stops attacking and closes eyes in anger* "You're just wasting my time, actually. I'm tired of this. I must gather my strength..." *pulls out teleportation amulet and holds it up*

Wintercrest or Shattered Coast: *holds his arm, like he's injured* "Argh! You pesky little brats... Don't think you've beaten me. There is a bigger picture that you fail and refuse to see... *pulls out teleportation amulet and holds it up* I just happen to be a part of it... Let's hope for your sake that we do not cross paths again!"

Neverest Mountains or Desolate Plains: *puts his arm at the bottom of his body, showing he's taken terrible damage* "*cough, cough* Aughh... You know not the forces you meddle with, imperials. I don't fear death at your grimy hands. Why, do you ask? *pulls out teleportation amulet and holds it up* Because we all know how to escape from it, don't we? Heheh..."

Trivia

  • Was a Revenge Boss for some time, only to be changed to Realm Boss due to deletion of Guardian Bosses, whose deathes triggered Revenge Bosses' spawn.
  • Originally created by Kacperlupa.polska, was but edited by Zathsu for addition to the Tale of Diep. It remains relatively similar to how it was before, but with more attacks, a backstory, and better formatting of the original battle structure.
