Tale of Diep (ToD) is no longer under active development as a derivative of Diep.io and remains here as an archive, though spin-offs such as The Extended Tale of Diep remain active. For info on the successor to Tale of Diep, now an independent work called "A Tale Where Nothing Matters", visit its Discord server here.

Portals are randomly spawning entities within The Tale of Diep that can appear in any game mode. Portals have a 1/2000 chance of replacing a Polygon spawn, and are about two-thirds the size of an Alpha Pentagon. When summoned, they will expand outward from the center and begin sucking in all Polygons, Crashers, Drones, Traps, and Bullets in a 20 tile radius before becoming vulnerable. Portals have 1600 health once vulnerable. They look like the purple and black vortex surrounding the Glimpse of Panzer, without the eye and particles.

About eight seconds after creation, Portals will begin summoning random enemies found in the game mode. For FFA, this could be Crashers, Clone Drones, Punchers, and other General Enemies. For Tower of Gladii, this would include all of those and Dungeon Crawlers, etc. During a Cult Raid, Portals will exclusively spawn Dungeon Crawlers should they appear. Portals can not spawn Portals.

Once the eight second grace period has ended, the Portal will begin warping in an enemy every 5 seconds. Every time the Portal summons in an enemy, it loses 200 health automatically. Therefore, a Portal will automatically collapse on itself after 40 seconds if not destroyed by players sooner. Even if the Portal is killed, the enemies will still alive and must be killed on their own.

When a Portal dies, depending on the cause of destruction, various things will happen. If the Portal is killed by a player, that player gets 500 XP + the total value of all Polygons sucked in during its expansion process when summoned. If the Portal collapses on itself, the Polygons, Traps, Bullets, etc. will all be fired out in random directions, with everything but bullets landing about 8 tiles away. Bullets will fire until they vanish or hit something. Bullets/Traps fired by a player and then sucked into a Portal before being shot out again, are considered a bullet/trap spawned by the Portal, therefore the death screen will state the player was killed by a Portal. Other than this, there is no way to be killed by a Portal, as they cannot suck anything else in after their expansion period.

Trivia

  • Gravi liked the idea of keeping the portal vortex design used behind the Archprophet's infobox image when creating the Glimpse of Panzer, that I decided to create a Portal enemy to continue the trend.
  • This page will eventually bring on the creation of the General Enemies page, which can spawn in any game mode at any time, usually replacing Polygon or Crasher spawns like this one.
