So, why do you care? Well, for one, if you’re Staff then you have maybe a few hours to enable the Staff.css gadget before all of your custom colors vanish & revert back to their standardized defaults, so better hurry. Also, I know several regular users who wanted to be able to see the fancy colors that Staff used to have, so you can enable that if you want & you don’t need Staff rights to do so. Beyond just that one gadget, Staff will soon be able to opt out (since the gadget will be enabled by default) of several editing tools that are currently served sitewide.
But what about normal users eh? Well, we have several gadgets planned. One is a theme that will make the Concept, OP Concept, & Tale of Diep namespaces have a different background & theme, one that will make it look like DCoW used to look so that people can feel at home. Another gadget we have planned is a recreation of the Emberfall script used in DCoW, which caused red motes to drift across the screen (like embers from a fire). We also plan to make a gadget that will allow users make the Author Template invisible, & two more that will each allow people to see who has created a conception, & who has just edited a page.
Don’t like any of the planned gadgets? That’s cool, they’re lame anyway, so you know what you should do? You should suggest better ones! Project:Gadgets has a section on how to suggest new ones, & it also has a section on how to submit ones if you’re tech-savvy enough to make your own yet not an Admin.
If anyone has any questions about Gadgets or how they work, you can see a detailed documentation page at Project:Gadgets (which is mostly about how they work & how you can help improve them if you want to pitch in), & you can see a list of all gadgets at Special:Gadgets. That’s all really, this wasn’t meant to be a WU, just a minor update so that no one will be alarmed if several scripts & stylesheets start acting funny; it’s normal.
